Teeth Whitening in Edmondson Park
What can teeth whitening actually do for your smile?
Professional whitening uses a peroxide-based gel to break down stains built up in your tooth enamel, leaving you with a noticeably brighter smile without changing the shape of your teeth.
It’s stronger than anything you can buy over the counter. Supermarket strips and whitening toothpaste only lift surface stains; professional whitening reaches deeper and lasts longer.
It’s suitable for most healthy adults with natural teeth. Nothing about your teeth is altered, you simply get a brighter version of the smile you already have.
In-chair vs take-home whitening, which is right for you?
Still deciding? Here is a full side-by-side comparison to help you choose the whitening option that best suits your lifestyle, timeline, and sensitivity level.

Why do teeth stain?
Teeth can stain in two ways — on the surface or from within.
Surface staining comes from everyday things touching your teeth: coffee, tea, red wine, curries, berries, smoking, and plaque buildup. This is the most common type, and it’s what professional whitening treats best.
Deeper staining happens inside the tooth itself, from ageing, teeth grinding, root canal treatment, certain childhood antibiotics, or genetics. It’s harder to shift but whitening can still help.
One thing whitening can’t fix: existing crowns, veneers, or white fillings won’t change colour, since they’re not natural enamel.
Why professional teeth whitening is one of our most loved treatments
Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental treatment in Australia and consistently one of the most requested services at Ed Square Dental. Here is why patients love it.
Whiter, Brighter Teeth
Professional whitening delivers a noticeably brighter result that over-the-counter products simply cannot match. The difference is visible immediately after in-chair treatment.
Regain Your Confidence
A brighter smile changes how you feel about showing it. Patients consistently report feeling more confident in photos, social situations, and professional settings after whitening.
Effective Results That Last
With professional whitening and good maintenance habits, results can last 12–24 months. Top-up kits from Ed Square Dental make it easy to keep your smile bright long-term.
Quick, Comfortable Treatment
In-chair whitening is completed in a single 60–90 minute appointment. There is no recovery time, no downtime, and no impact on your daily life. You leave with a brighter smile the same day.

Wondering what actually happens at a professional teeth whitening appointment?
Here is exactly what to expect, from the moment you book through to walking out with a brighter smile.
Call us on 02 8071 5339 or book online. We will confirm your appointment and send you pre-whitening instructions, including switching to a sensitivity toothpaste 3–5 days beforehand if you have sensitive teeth.
Your dentist quickly assesses your teeth and gums to confirm you are suitable for whitening. We note your current shade using a guide for comparison after treatment.
A protective barrier is applied to your gums and soft tissue. A desensitising agent is then applied to your teeth to minimise sensitivity during and after treatment.
Professional-grade whitening gel is carefully applied to the tooth surfaces, left to work for a set period, then refreshed. This process is repeated in cycles throughout your 60 to 90 minute appointment.
The gel is removed and your teeth are rinsed. We compare your new shade to your pre-treatment baseline. Most patients are genuinely delighted at this point.
We provide clear aftercare instructions including a short white diet period to protect your results, and discuss whether a take-home top-up kit is suitable for you.
How long do teeth whitening results last?
With good care, whitening typically lasts 12 – 24 months. A few things affect how long it lasts:
- Staining foods and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine, curries)
- Smoking: one of the fastest ways to re-stain
- How well you brush and floss
- Whether you use top-up treatments
- Your natural enamel colour
Keeping Your Smile Bright
- Avoid dark food and drink for 48 hours after treatment
- Use a whitening toothpaste
- Rinse with water after coffee, tea, or wine
- Sip through a straw where you can
- Keep up 6 monthly check ups and cleans
- Use your top up kit now and then

Frequently Asked Questions
Is professional teeth whitening safe?
Yes, professional teeth whitening is safe when performed by a qualified dentist using TGA-approved products. The most common side effect is temporary tooth sensitivity, which typically resolves within 24–48 hours. We take steps to minimise this at every appointment.
Does teeth whitening hurt?
Most patients experience no discomfort during the treatment itself. Some patients with sensitive teeth notice temporary sensitivity during or after whitening. We apply a desensitising treatment at your appointment and recommend a sensitivity toothpaste beforehand to minimise any discomfort.
How many shades whiter will my teeth get?
Results vary depending on your natural tooth colour, the type and depth of staining, and which whitening option you choose. In-chair whitening typically delivers more dramatic results than take-home kits. We use a shade guide before and after treatment so you can see the difference clearly.
Can I whiten my teeth at home instead?
Over-the-counter products (strips, toothpastes, store kits) contain much lower concentrations of whitening agent than professional products and deliver significantly less dramatic results. Professional whitening, even the take-home kit from your dentist, is far more effective and uses stronger, custom-fitted trays.
Will teeth whitening work on crowns, veneers, or fillings?
No, whitening products only work on natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers, bridges, and tooth-coloured fillings will not change colour with whitening treatment. Our dentists will discuss how this affects your treatment at your consultation.
How do I maintain my whitening results?
Avoid staining foods and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine, berries) for 48 hours after treatment. Use a whitening toothpaste as part of your daily routine. Attend regular check-ups and cleans. Use your take-home top-up kit periodically to keep results fresh.
Is teeth whitening covered by health insurance?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by private health funds. However, a check-up and clean prior to whitening may attract a health fund benefit. Our team can advise you at your appointment.
Who is not suitable for teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for children under 18, or for patients with untreated gum disease or active tooth decay. Patients with heavily restored smiles (multiple crowns, veneers) may not be ideal candidates as existing restorations will not whiten.
Flexible payment options
Quality dental care should be accessible to everyone. We accept all major health funds and offer a range of flexible payment options to make your treatment as affordable as possible, with no compromise on quality.
Major health funds accepted
We accept all private health insurance providers and process your claim on the spot via HiCaps.
